Discrimination appearance essay

Interesting, but it does not quite measure what it purports to measure: whether looks affect employability. The choice of sending a picture is not neutral, and could itself affect the outcome independent of looks bias per se. This is particularly true given sexist interpretations of the intention behind adding a photograph: in a patriarchal society, the photo-including motives of attractive women will be most suspect. So, while the study gives some credence to the idea that when an action is taken that may be interpreted as vain, beautiful women will be most vulnerable to that interpretation, it proves neither this nor the hoped-for conclusion.
